An international multidisciplinary research centre of excellence specialising in the generation of high-quality synchrotron and free-electron laser light and its applications in materials and life sciences.  The mission of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste is to promote cultural, social and economic growth through:  basic and applied research  technology and know-how transfer  advanced technical, scientific and management training  the creation and coordination of national and international scientific networks.  The primary resources of the research centre are two advanced light sources, the electron storage ring Elettra and the free electron laser (FEL) FERMI. Operating continuously (24 hours a day), they provide light of the selected “colour” and quality to over 30 experimental stations allowing the characterisation of the structure and function of matter with sensitivity down to the molecular and atomic levels. These powerful means are used by a large community of researchers from academia and industry to produce nanostructures and devices, and to develop new technological processes. 

Integrated systems in the field of industrial automation, electronics and image processing.  Among the solutions created: car license plate reading systems, alarm centralisation, territory control and microcontroller modules. 

Electromagnetic stirrers, sensors for process control, numerical simulation, services and consultancy in the steel sector.   

Founded in 1999, as a result of a European research project, ESTECO is a software company that develops solutions for the engineering and business management sectors.  ESTECO’s main products are:  modeFRONTIER, software for the automation of simulation processes and for optimisation in engineering design.  VOLTA, a collaborative enterprise platform for the management of simulation processes and data and for optimisation in engineering.  Cardanit, Business Process Management SaaS for modelling business processes and decisions using BPMN and DMN standards.

Basic, clinical and translational research regarding liver diseases, as well as education and training activities.  The Foundation pursues the following objectives:  scientific research in the field of liver diseases  healthcare assistance for the treatment of liver and biliary tract diseases  social and healthcare assistance for people suffering from liver and biliary tract diseases  education in the field of research, diagnosis and treatment of liver and biliary tract diseases  training of healthcare personnel for the treatment of liver and biliary tract diseases.

Image processing software solutions for applications in manufacturing, automation, pharmaceutical robotics and biomedical research.  GVT, which was born as a spin-off of SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies of Trieste, specialises in advanced solutions in industrial robotics, computational vision and machine learning. 

Gold Standard Diagnostics Trieste, part of the multinational Gold Standard Diagnostics Group, develops, produces and markets diagnostic kits worldwide for the analysis of chemical contaminants such as mycotoxins, drug residues and hormones in food and animal feed.  It distributes the entire portfolio of Gold Standard Diagnostics kits throughout Italy to control allergens, pathogens, GMOs, frauds, environmental toxins, pesticides, acrylamide, and histamine. 

Innovative IT solutions for PA and Healthcare. 

Consultancy and services in the ICT sector aimed at implementing interventions that integrate organisational strategies, human resource development, communication and marketing, and digital technologies.  Design and implementation of training interventions and innovative solutions for education and training; projects and systems to create advanced digital services for user assistance and intelligent tutoring; design and development of service models for marketing and communication. 

Research and training in genetic engineering and biotechnology applied to health, nutrition and agricultural and industrial development. ICGEB provides a high-level international scientific environment for advanced research and education in biotechnology for more than 60 member states. It collaborates with other multilateral organisations, disseminates information related to biosafety, bioethics, and promotes scientific information. 

Services, research and consulting in the field of natural sciences and engineering, particularly regarding the protection and management of water resources.  R&D for optimising water management and the hydraulic protection of the territory. Environmental and hydraulic design of water and sewage networks real-time smart monitoring; water and pressure loss management; water treatment to remove parasites, one- and multi-dimensional numerical modelling of networks, water bodies and floodable areas; physical scale modelling of the interaction between water courses and structures; hydrogeological and hydrological studies; surveys and GIS.
